Barren Valley Sunset
At the right time of the year, from this vantage point the sunset aligns with the Colorado River flowing through the Grand Canyon. The Native American (Paiute) name for this place is Toroweap and translates as barren valley. Standing here, 3000 feet (915m) above the canyon floor, watching the sunset, taking in the enormity of the Grand Canyon; I can’t help but wonder what the first people to see this thought when they stood where I was standing. It was like I could feel them standing next to me, connected through millennia by our awe.
Barren Valley Sunset was awarded 1st Place in the Nature - Sunset category in the 2021 International Photography Awards, a Gold Medal in the Fine Art Landscape category in the 2022 London Photography Awards, a Platinum Medal in the Nature - Landscape category in the 2022 European Photography Awards, and a Gold Medal in the Fine Art Landscape category in the 2022 European Photography Awards
